Nawazuddin recalled, “The premiere of Hey Ram was held at Film City in Mumbai. I went there with five or six of my friends. I told them, ‘Hey, Hey Ram is releasing, and I have worked in it.’ Kamal Haasan came up to me and said, ‘Nawaz, tell your friends that your role got cut from the film.’ I was devastated and replied, ‘Sir, this will cause a lot of embarrassment for me.’”

In the show, Kamal Haasan, who was present at the time, spoke fondly of Nawazuddin, saying, “I am proud of him. He was an assistant director on Hey Ram and even then, he was a brilliant actor.
